Nutcracker 2020 Update
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the cancellation of our 2020 presentation of Nutcracker. This was not an easy decision to make, but a necessary one. The health and safety of our dancers, instructors, volunteers, and patrons is our priority and, based on the continuing trends of this virus and guidelines laid out by government officials and medical professionals, it is apparent that it will not be safe for large groups to gather through the end of the year. We have worked with VPAT and explored every potential alternative option for a performance, but ultimately, this decision is in the best interest of everyone involved. We do not feel our dancers will be able to safely and adequately rehearse with one another the way they need to in order to present a VBC-caliber live performance.
We are hopeful that we will be able to return to the VPAT stage in the Spring of 2021 and we hope you will join us when we do. In the meantime, we are working to develop some Nutcracker-themed educational opportunities over the next few months. Stay tuned to your email and our social media pages for updates.
We are grateful to our VBC family for the continued support during these difficult times. With Broadway going dark and numerous ballet companies also cancelling their seasons through 2020, the damage to the arts community will be difficult to repair. VBC will survive this storm, but that’s not the case for other local and national performing arts schools, companies, and organizations. Now, more than ever, arts organizations need your love and support. If you’re able, consider a donation to organizations that support performers, choreographers, stage technicians, set designers, costume designers – any of the branches involved in live theater. Your support will help to keep the arts relevant and ensure there is a place for them when this nightmare is over.
We wish you and your families all the best and we look forward to dancing for you again soon!
