Celebrating Over 20 Years
The Vacaville Ballet Theatre Company was originally founded as a “for-profit” production company in 1994 by Jamie Zimmerman, who was also the original Artistic Director. The first home of the Vacaville Ballet Theatre Company was located within Ms. Zimmerman’s school the “Grande School of Ballet”. Ms. Zimmerman was a member of the San Francisco Ballet Company for 15 years where she became a principal dancer, the highest rank in a Company.
At the time Vacaville Ballet Theatre Company performed its first ballet, plans were in the works to convert the Company to a “non-profit” production company. Vacaville Ballet Theatre Company became a “non-profit” benefit corporation in September 1994 with Ms. Jamie Zimmerman as Artistic Director and Ms. Heidi LuMaye née Glankler as the assistant Artistic Director.
Ms. Glankler was a merit scholar with the San Francisco Ballet for 8 years. She became the new Artistic Director of Vacaville Ballet Theatre Company in 1995. A new school, the “Vacaville Ballet Theatre Academy”, was opened as part of the “non-profit” corporation. From the beginning the intention was to have a “non-profit” school for the dance education of the Company members. In 1995 this goal was attained. With the creation of a new school the Vacaville Ballet Theatre Company changed locations and was housed within the attached school.
In 2006 Mrs. LuMaye purchased the Vacaville Ballet Theatre Academy at which point she became the sole owner of this “for-profit” school while the Vacaville Ballet Theatre Company remained separate and retained its “non-profit” status.
In 2013 Ms. Cassandra Kamakeeaina née Eifert became the new Artistic Director of the Vacaville Ballet Theatre Company. Mrs. Kamakeeaina was trained at the Vacaville Ballet Theatre Academy and was a member of the Vacaville Ballet Theatre Company for 11 years. In 2014 Ms. Kamakeeaina opened a new school, the “Royal School of Ballet”. This will now be the new home of the Vacaville Ballet Theatre Company.
